I've beaten the median!

So, a couple months back, an article was posted on stating that half of self-published authors make less than $500 in a year. (That's the median... the average was $10,000, but that number is skewed by huge successes like EL James and Amanda Hocking.)

So, today, a year and two weeks since I published THE BROKEN, I tallied up all of the money I've made. Now, this only includes the money that has been paid out to me... Amazon takes two months or more to send out my royalties, and Smashwords takes even longer. Still, in a year, $715.34 has been paid out to me.

Not too shabby!

All in all, I'm pleased by the number. It's not living wage, but it's a little extra in my pocket each month. Most of the money is actually going right back into my writing career though. I've spent about $325 on cover art, books about writing, business-y items to organize my paperwork, filing my business with the government, and writing software.

Lately my numbers are going down though... I definitely need to get THE BET finished and pubbed soon, or I'm going to be making no money at all! Putting THE BROKEN up on KDP Select hasn't done shit for me... if anything, it's lost me a little bit from not having it on B&N where my sales had started to pick up. As soon as THE BROKEN goes off KDP Select, I'll be reuploading it to Smashwords and Barnes & Noble.

Anyway, that's where I stand right now. Writing is still a hobby at this point in time, but once I get a few more books under my belt, I believe sales will pick up.

Until then, I just want to thank all of you who have bought my book or told your friends about it or simply supported me in my writing. I truly appreciate all that you have done for me to bring me to this point!
